Technical Training

Technical diving courses

Technical diving is scuba diving’s “extreme” sport, taking experienced and qualified divers far deeper than in mainstream recreational diving. Maybe it's time to discover the advantages of technical diving. Technical diving is marked by significantly more equipment and training requirements to manage the additional hazard this type of diving entails. Tec diving isn’t for everyone, but for you who want to go beyond the limits, it's perfect.

What is technical diving?

Technical scuba diving is defined as diving other than conventional commercial or research diving that takes divers beyond recreational scuba diving limits. It is further defined as and includes one or more of the following:

  • diving beyond 40 metres/130 feet deep
  • required stage decompression
  • diving in an overhead environment beyond 40 linear metres/130 linear feet of the surface
  • accelerated decompression and or the use of variable gas mixtures during the dive
Because in technical diving the surface is effectively inaccessible in an emergency, tec divers use extensive methodologies and technologies and training to manage the added risks. Even with these, however, tec diving admittedly has more risk, potential hazard and shorter critical error chains than does recreational scuba diving.

PADI (DSAT) TecRec Program

DSAT TecRec courses (PADI Tec department) provide the techniques and procedures necessary for diving beyond recreational dive limits. These are some of the most intensive, yet exhilarating, courses you'll find. We offer following courses: TEC 40, TEC 45, TEC 50, TEC 65, Trimix and TEC Trimix Diver . Technical diving isn't for everyone but if this type of diving appeals to you and you're willing to accept the risks, responsibilities and obligations, you'll find it one of the most rewarding dive experiences you'll ever have.

Anders Heegaard a PADI Platinum Course Director and his team will be in charge of your TEC training and also oversees all other GoPro courses. When committing to one of our GoPro packages you will receive huge extra discounts for TEC and Cave courses. That way everything can be done in-house and you get the best prices on your training, weather it’s GoPro or GoTec.

PADI TEC Trimix Course

PADI Tec Trimix 65 Diver

With this course you benefit from using trimix (a blend of helium, oxygen and nitrogen), and extend your depth range to dive to a maximum depth of 65 metres. You qualify to make multi-stop decompression dives that employ Enriched Air/Nitrox and oxygen for accelerated decompression, and any trimix with an oxygen content of 18% or more.

During the course, you

  • use full technical diving equipment
  • plan and execute at least five trimix decompression dives using various trimix blends
  • use decompression software to create custom dive tables and dive plans
  • make training dives to 65 metres

PADI Full Tec Trimix Diver

By extending your depth range capabilities, the PADI Tec Trimix Diver course takes you to the outer edges of technical deep diving, opening the door to pristine dive sites few divers – if any – ever see.

During the course, you

  • use full technical diving equipment
  • plan and execute at least five trimix decompression dives using various trimix blends
  • use decompression software to create custom dive tables and dive plans
  • make training dives to 90 metres

Pre-Requisites:

  • Be a PADI Rescue Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization and having proof of CPR and first aid training with the previous two years)
  • Be certified as a Tec 50 or Tec Trimix 65 (or those holding a qualifying certification from another training organization)
  • Have logged at least 100 dives (150 for Full Tec Trimix Diver Program)
  • Have a medical form signed by your physician
  • Be at least 18 years old

PADI TEC 40, 45 and 50 Diver

TEC 40

The first step of technical diving is PADI’s Tec 40 course. Here you will learn the basics for diving with double tanks. The course takes what you know from recreational diving and bridges it into technical diving.

You will learn to use desktop decompression software and dive computers to plan and make decompression dives up to 10 minutes of total decompression. The depth will not be deeper than 40 metres/130 feet. At the end of the course you will be qualified to use a single cylinder of decompression gas with up to 50 percent oxygen (EANx50) to increase conservatism to the required decompression.

Your PADI Tec 40 course training credits towards the PADI Tec 45 and Tec 50 courses.

TEC 45

The Tec 45 course starts where Tec 40 leaves off. It takes your training as a technical diver further and deeper into the ocean. It is the second sub-modular course in the full PADI Tec Diver course. The Tec 45 module covers the skills, equipment and planning needed to dive to a maximum of 45 metres/145 feet. The knowledge to plan and execute single and repetitive decompression dives using a single stage cylinder of EANx or 100% Oxygen to accelerate or add conservatism to the decompression stops There is no time limit of amount of decompression you can do. The course prepares you for any foreseeable technical diving emergencies. Once you master the these skills and procedures you’ll be ready to move into deeper technical diving

TEC 50

Builds on what you learned in the Tec 40 and 45 courses. The Tec 50 (formally known as Tec Deep Course) consists of five Practical Applications, and five Training Dives. You will as always be using double tanks for the back gas, plus two side-mount tanks with up to 100% oxygen for decompression. The Tec 50 course training takes three days to complete. With this certification you will be able to make multiple gas switches, extended no decompression dives, decompression stop dives and accelerated decompression dives using air, Nitrox or up to 100% oxygen to 50m / 165ft, using technical diving equipment and procedures.

Pre-Requisites:

  • Be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization)
  • Be a PADI Enriched Air Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization)
  • Be a PADI Deep Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization)
  • Have a minimum of 30 logged dives, of which at least 10 dives were made with enriched air nitrox deeper than 18 metres / 60 feet.
  • Have a medical form signed by your physician
  • Be certified Tec 40 (to enroll en Tec 45), Be certified Tec 45 (to enroll in Tec 50)
All the 3 courses are modular 3 step PADI DSAT Tec Deep Diver course.

The courses build on training, dive planning and technical motor skills learned throughout Tec 40 and Tec 45 courses, and allows the diver to make gas switch decompression dives to 165ft/50 meters using air and enriched air/O2 (up to 100% oxygen) with technical diving equipment and procedures.

Part of the training to become a technical diver is to understand and acknowledge the hazards and risks involved in technical diving, prepare for and respond to reasonably foreseeable emergencies that may occur in this type of diving. Completing this 3 step modular program provides the foundational skills and knowledge necessary for continuing onto the PADI DSAT Tec Trimix 65 or full PADI DSAT Trimix course.

Sidemount

Learn to dive Sidemount with GoPro Playa. This increasing popular gear configuration is suitable for all types of diving, open water, cavern and caves. In our sidemount courses you will learn over 3 days how to safely dive with 2 tanks placed on your side horizontal.

Diving sidemount has many advantages such as:

  • Being more streamlined in the water.
  • Having better trim.
  • Redundancy of having 2 tanks/regulators
  • Easier entries and exits
  • No walking with the weight of the tanks on your back.

Sidemount cave diving also offer a more "solo" and safer option, compared to diving the classic double tanks.

Certifications are a available from PADI and TDI
*if cave certified, the course can be taught in a cavern/cave environment.
